紹介された研究の概要
本研究では、中等度のギャンブル問題を抱える日本の成人320名を対象として、ギャンブルをやめた経験を持つ人物を模した「バーチャル・ピア」との継続的な対話が、ギャンブル症状や関連する問題の軽減に役立つかを、8週間のランダム化比較試験によって検証しました。
参加者は、コミュニケーションアプリを通じて、次のいずれかの条件に割り付けられました。
洞察的なバーチャル・ピアと対話する群
共感的なバーチャル・ピアと対話する群
2種類のバーチャル・ピアと対話する群
バーチャル・ピアと対話しない対照群
その結果、洞察的なバーチャル・ピアと対話した参加者では、対照群と比べて、ギャンブル症状およびギャンブルを行う頻度が減少しました。また、共感的なバーチャル・ピアと対話した参加者では、ギャンブルに使用する金額が減少しました。
これらの結果は、対面での支援だけでなく、オンライン上で利用できる支援的なバーチャル・ピアも、ギャンブル問題を抱える人の行動変容を支援する手段となり得ることを示唆しています。
